Day three in chicksville
Tahi and Rua explore the world of Room 13 |
We knew the twelth egg was not alive because the egg had started smelling rotten. So we took it outside and opened it to see what was inside. ....
Ms Jones chipped off the outside shell. Inside was a tough skin. |
When we opened the egg it has a little dead chick inside it. |
There was something very strange about the egg. chick was deformed. It had four legs! We buried it in the butterfly garden. |

Frogs and chicks
Day two in Room 13s chicken farm and menagerie. Here is Tahi wondering when breakfast will be served.
Not to be outdone by chicks, our frogs are also thriving. They quickly turned from tadpoles into frogs. Here is one, waiting for a fly.
They are starting to eat and run about a bit more. |

Have a close look at our frogarium. How many frogs can you spot? There are four. The fifth one must be hiding. |

Welcome back to Room 13 in 2013!
We've started our year with a classroom menagerie. A very eggs-citing event has happened this week. We have hatched little chickens from eggs.
Here is our incubator with twelve eggs. The first egg started to hatch on Monday. You can see a little crack in the side of the egg.
Tahi came first. He (or she) was born on Tuesday. The chick is exhausted after struggling out of its egg. |
Tahi is drying out and checking out the big wide world. |
By Wednesday eleven chicks have hatched. They are in the 'hotbox'. There is a lamp keeping them warm. Which one is Tahi? They all look the same. |
