Author Visit

We had a visit from a children's writer.
Her name is Talia Evered
She is a wonderful story teller.
Room 16 joined us to listen to her talk about writing.
Here are some photos of her reading us some of her books.

Talia puts a lot of expression into her storytelling.
She reminded us that we are all writers and that anyone can write exciting stories.
They just need to catch their ideas and write them down quickly before they forget them.

Still life drawing

We are learning to sketch objects using shading.
We make our sketch pencil whisper, talk and shout to help our drawings look 3 dimensional.

Writing

We have been using our imagination to write stories.
Here are our stories that describe being a coin.

I am a coin

I am a coin. Somebody picked me up! They were going to spend me on a microwave! But they couldn’t spend me on a microwave because I was a two dollar coin and a microwave costs too much. My pal was in the wallet. They dropped us in the drain. We went into a pipe. The pipe was dirty and we got dirty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the pipe had water and the water cleaned us and we were shiny again.

Noah

I am a coin

I am a coin and I am alone in a sweaty hand. I used to have friends but they got spent on food. So that’s why I am waiting to get spent on lollies. She went to her meeting and then she went to the bank so she could pick up some more coins to spend on stuff.

Jade

I am on the floor and I wonder where I am. Then someone picked me up and put me in their pocket and the little girl went to the shop and she gave the lady the coin. She put it in the tin with the other coins. Then it got picked up and given to another person and he went to a meeting. But it was not put in properly and it rolled away. Then it bumped into someone’s leg. He picked me up and took me to his house and he put me in his wallet. It was dark. He went to a machine that sold chocolate bars and he put me in and that was the end of me.

Tane Mahuta Day

Friday was Tane Mahuta Day.
We  sketched the Kauri tree with our buddy class

Then we weeded the kitchen garden.

We found lots of bean seeds. We are going to save them and plant them in the spring

Room 12 children are pulling out the dead bean vines.

This round garden has potatoes under the ground and a swan plant above.
Last summer it grew a giant pumpkin.

Look at the assortment of seeds we collected.
Some of the bean seeds have sprouted.

We found giant worms in the garden.
This shows how healthy the soil is.

Look what was lying quietly underneath the weeds!

There and back again

Me again!

Now that I'm back at school  just want to share one last blog post with you.
Remember all those strange creatures at the Luxury Spa Resort I told you about?
Well, here's the last and strangest of all.....
And you will never guess where I met him.

A blackbird baked in a pie!!!!!!!!!!

A rabbit pie, what's more. Pretty exotic food at the Resort.

Here he is, out of the pie.
This blackbird is very chatty.
He taught me a song. it goes like this:

Sing a song of sixpence
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing
Wasn't that a fancy dish to
Put before the Queen of Argyle Street?

Ah well, the holiday's over. Back to school.
